Plein Air Painting in Gouache
Enjoy the fun of painting on location with the flexible and forgiving medium of opaque watercolor.
Learn to paint landscapes in gouache through demonstration and individual instruction. Topics will include choosing a subject, using values to create a strong composition, identifying colors by their hue, value and chroma, mixing a wide range of colors from a limited palette, simplifying foliage and grasses with brushstrokes and suggestion instead of details, and creating depth and distance in your painting.
Gouache paint will be provided for the workshop; a suggested materials list will be provided for other materials (paper, palette, brushes, etc.) A plein air easel is not necessary; a folding chair and a watercolor sketchbook will do, though a portable drawing board can be helpful. Location: Battery Park, New Castle, DE. Instructor: Charley Parker; $40 per session; Saturdays, Oct. 19 & 26; 9 am – noon; Rain Date Nov. 2. Open to beginners and experienced painters, 18 and over.
