Thomas Del Porte presents
Menagerie of Traditions

Painting of a church by Thomas Del PorteSEPTEMBER 6—OCTOBER 25
Artist Reception: September 13th Noon-3pm
Thomas is a devoted Delaware artist and teacher whose paintings pulse with the legacy of great painters—from Cézanne to Van Gogh. Welcome to Menagerie of Traditions, an exhibit in which Thomas honors the lineage of these great artists whose bold vision shaped the language of the contemporary art world. Steeped in tradition, but never confined by it, he carries their influence forward. His work—a symphony of line, light, color and space—shimmers with tension and beauty, and invites the viewer to slow down and see. With intention in every inch of his paintings, each brush stroke is unpredictable, a moment of choice, a mark of what he sees. His gift as an artist is not only seen, it is felt—each painting reaching out to connect with the viewer. In Thomas’ world, painting becomes more than an image or a picture on a canvas, it becomes memory, movement, meaning—an experience.

GROUP THEMED EXHIBITION

Winterscapes: An exhibition inviting artists to explore the spirit of the Brandywine Valley winter – its landscapes, atmosphere, and emotional resonance.

This exhibition invites artists to explore the spirit of winter — its landscapes, atmospheres, and emotional resonance. Whether through icy stillness, quiet streets, wild blizzards, candlelit windows, or frost-covered dreams, “Winterscapes” reflects the feeling of the season — serene, stark, nostalgic, or even quietly joyful.

Artists are encouraged to interpret the theme broadly — through natural or imagined winter environments, seasonal symbols, or personal reflections on the colder months. Work can include human figures, traces of human presence, or be purely focused on the environment itself. The emphasis is on evoking the essence of winter — whether that’s through solitude, resilience, warmth, isolation, or wonder.

Creative Guidelines:

– Work must be rooted in a winter theme or setting (literal or abstract — cold weather, winter light, snow, storms, winter flora/fauna, etc.)
– Human elements are optional — they may be central, subtle (e.g., footprints, windows, shadows), or absent altogether.
– Artists are encouraged to consider emotion and atmosphere — how does winter feel? What stories live in the landscape?
